The ability to write well is a vital academic and life skill. This summer, young poets, journalists and novelists will take their writing to a new level with a workshop designed by Fairmont's own Director of Education, Sandy Cosgrove, and taught by Fairmont's teachers. In addition to the fundamentals, students will have the opportunity to flex their word power through creative writing activities.

Take a "crash course" in Demolition Derby. Design a Mighty Metropolis. Challenge the Battle Track. Build and race a Locomotive faster than a speeding Worm Drive. Students in both the Pre-Engineering and Engineering FUNdamentals workshops will explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture through design challenges and competitions using over 100,000 LEGO Technic and System components. This is a hands-on and minds-on opportunity suitable for any student, from LEGO novices to "LEGO maniacs." Workshops are not affiliated with the LEGO Group. On your marks! Get Set! Go! Join us as we unlock the science of sports. Discover the amazing capabilities of the human body as you build a fitness kit complete with stethoscope, pedometer and lung capacity meter. From nutrition to skeletons we take a tour of the human body and discover the science behind keeping fit. Stay full day and delve to some extreme sports science as explore the buoyancy of swimming, the tricks to good balance and the aerodynamics of racing. From learning about wellness to understanding the human body's amazing capabilities, this camp delivers a healthy dose of fitness and science.

Are you ready to rumble and race your very own Robot Transformer? Will yours be a racing auto-bot or a fierce battling robo hero? You decide. Then, join the RC Madness Cosmic Crazy Car Quest. You design a 3D game to save the world by gathering power crystals and defeating the alien spaceship. This terrific techno-camp includes kid's room security alarms, touchable giant bouncing bubbles, techno ice cream makers, human grossology experiments and an electro laser light show for your room.

The amazing power of rocketry is in your hands as you countdown, pull the trigger and launch the all new Hypersonic Rocket Blaster skyward! Create Astroworld, the first “kids rule†space station. Experiment with space candy, crazy space ball polymers and toys in space. Then, blast-off in Xcellerator, Astroworld's own land rocket space station transporter that you design and launch. This out of our world camp includes meteor craters, marshmallow launchers and much more.!

Welcome to our Fun Park, where you can design and build Scream Machine, our all new rollercoaster powered by gravity and magnetism. Your Fun Park needs a flashing light-up carnival. Join the fun by creating a mini carnival of games that includes flashback target ball, cosmic bowling, shockwave mini hoops and electro lizard operation. Then, go wild with Animal Kingdom Park. Come face to face with Freaky Foober, a real live frog. Let Milli Vanilli the millipede tickle your finger and Sebastian the crab show you the power of his giant claw. Your wild animal kingdom includes an arctic encounter with a giant growing polymer penguin and a rainforest rally monkey mammal that hangs on your arm.

Enter the Craz-E-Cool Physics Invention Zone, where you are The Master Inventor. Use your physics electro lab to build crazy cool electronic games that buzz, bounce and flash. Have a crazy cool time finding real pirate treasure, making super sonic sounds and exploring mysterious magic sand. Then, get movin' and invent your own crazy cool electro powered motorized boat. Use the power of an air pressure storage tank to race in the movin' machine grand prix. Experiment with magic popping bags, silly slime makers, high flying kites and much more.

Considered one of the greatest games ever invented, chess requires keen mental skills and a good imagination. Fairmont's Chess workshop will help campers develop problem solving and critical thinking skills, increase concentration, foster good sportsmanship and much more. Campers will receive exclusive worksheets and mini-workbooks and may continue to pursue their passion for chess afterschool during the regular academic year through chess classes and clubs.

Help halt the mental math meltdown with Fairmont's Math Workshop designed to build confidence and skill in fundamental mathematical concepts. Fairmont teachers use Fairmont's Accelerated Math computer program to help ensure students master the key mathematical concepts vital for their grade.
ABACUS ARITHMETIC WORKSHOP

Students will do more than count stars during this mental math workshop designed to help improve memory, attentiveness and space imagination. Learn how the numbering system works on the abacus and perform simple math problems. This class has been shown to improve math calculation abilities and speed, develop memory and logical inference, help establish greater confidence in learning and build concentration and patience.

This course will be taught by Heather Thompson.
Taking a great picture requires thought, attention to detail, and a few essential skills. In this class, students will learn how to properly care for and operate their camera, as well as how to take great photos of people, places and things. Special topics include; Capturing People in Motion, Outdoor Photography, Action Photography, People and Pet Portraiture and Giving the Gift of Photography.
For the first class meeting, students must bring their own digital camera, spare camera battery and memory card. Students will be asked to practice uploading and digitally re-touching (via Adobe Photoshop or Picasa2) their photos as well as saving and printing photos outside of regular class meetings.

Fairmont is partnering with Total Golf Adventures to offer boys and girls ages 6 and up one of the best golf camps available. The program is conducive to all skill levels; from the beginning player just starting out to the more experienced player looking to hone his or her game at the tournament level. The highly trained and accomplished staff provides top-quality PGA golf instruction in a fun-filled environment. Each day, campers practice all aspects of their game: chipping, putting, driving, irons, woods, golf rules and etiquette and practice techniques. Our goal is to see today's junior golfer become tomorrow's champion!
MEET THE MASTERS ART WORKSHOP - PABLO PICASSO

This course will be taught by Robin Gormin.
Pablo Picasso was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Students will have an opportunity to try their hand at creating their own Picasso-inspired work of art in the manner of his Blue Period, Rose Period or Cubist style. Students will experiment with multiple mediums including oil pastel, watercolor, acrylic paints and collage.

Here is your child's chance to document with photos a favorite vacation, sleepover or birthday party. Participants will leave class with a finished or nearly finished album as well as new ideas for scrapping. Students should bring 10-20photos (and their creativity) for the first class meeting.

Campers get peppy with Fairmont's Cheerleading Workshop designed to present the fundamentals of cheering in a positive, organized, professional, and fun atmosphere. Participants will learn the latest cheer and dance moves while strengthening their team building and leadership skills - and having a great time cheering with new friends.

Students will operate digital video equipment, supply voices for their characters, and by the end of the week, they will have created an animated short film!
