Through this intensive leadership workshop, students have the opportunity to become confident, skilled leaders through interactive activities that focus on leadership development. With high-energy activities, stimulating group discussions and memorable stories, students will learn and use the skills that are needed to be an effective leader in their school, community and home. This workshop is ideal for students planning to be a Leader in Training (see below) and/or students looking to grow as leaders. Jill Esplin, motivational speaker and author, will be leading the workshop for the second year.

To succeed in higher mathematics, a strong pre algebra foundation is essential. Pre Algebra with Pizzazz is a two week accelerated pre algebra workshop that helps students gain understanding of foundational algebraic concepts including integer and whole number operations, rational and irrational number applications, the Commutative Laws, the Associative Laws, the Distributive Law, the order of operations, and both single and multi-variable equations. Students will learn foundational algebra skills in a fun, dynamic, interactive environment.

Fairmont is recognized internationally for the success of our comprehensive Advanced Math program which begins with an essential foundation in Algebra. If a break down in math occurs, it can usually be traced back to an inherent weakness in Algebra. Don't let this happen to your child. Fairmont's Algebra Master workshop is a two week accelerated Algebra course during which students will learn polynomial operations including factoring and polynomial division, rational and irrational number applications with variable expressions, single and multi-variable equation solving, linearity, expressions of inequality, quadratics, parabolas, the quadratic formula, completing the square, focal analysis, and all associated applications.

Banish writers' block with this workshop geared to help students discover the writer within. This two week intensive language arts program prepares students of all ability levels to feel more confident about their writing and reading comprehension abilities - two skills no college-bound student can do without!
Language Arts Workshop Highlights:
- Reinforcement of strong writing skills: essays, speeches, newspaper articles, research projects and creative writing
- Strategies to improve reading comprehension and enjoyment

WRITE YOUR OWN CHILDREN'S BOOK WORKSHOP

Students learn the secrets of writing children's literature by first examining what works in popular examples. Then, the real creativity begins as they develop their own plot lines, characters, and settings; create a preliminary layout for their books; add dialogue and, finally, include illustrations. Budding book illustrators are invited to join the workshop as one student in each small group will be responsible for artwork. The completed books will be copied and spiral bound so that each participant has a "published" copy to take home.

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teacher and Junior High director Jack McDonald.
Have fun in Fairmont's commercial grade kitchen planning and preparing delicious meals during this week-long foray into the culinary arts. Students will learn how to plan meals based on knowledge of key ingredients and their compatibility. They will also learn the proper method for using kitchen tools and measuring devices while preparing foods using a variety of methods.

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teacher Taryn Stickrath-Brown.
Students will delve into the magic of the silver screen as they study films and gain a greater understanding of storytelling. During the week-long workshop, students will watch and discuss age-appropriate films, as well as write their own short scripts based on what they have observed. Organization, plot, theme, conflict, and description are just a few of the elements they will analyze and put into action during their film screening, analysis, and creative screenwriting.

The Money Camp is an innovative day camp that teaches kids how to make, manage, and multiply their money. Using interactive games, activities, and field trips, students will learn the basic time-tested principles of creating financial freedom.
Students will learn:
- How to be financially secure
- How to earn, budget, save and invest
- How thought and beliefs influence wealth potential
- That passive income is the key to wealth
- The three pillars of wealth (stocks, real estate and business)
- How to pay yourself first and to save early and save often!

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teacher and cheerleading coach Marizol Ortiz.
Campers get peppy with Fairmont's Cheerleading Workshop designed to present the fundamentals of cheering in a positive, organized, professional, and fun atmosphere. Participants will learn the latest cheer and dance moves while strengthening their team building and leadership skills—and having a great time cheering with new friends.

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teacher Stephpanie Craig.
If a crime scene is your student's idea of summer fun, check out CSI Fairmont, a workshop where students are in charge of a criminal investigation from start to finish. After students are called to a mock crime scene, they collect evidence to solve the crime. Fairmont's CSIs will discuss possible suspects and motives. Then, they will write up a crime report and use their creativity to present the report to their peers as a story, a movie or a court case.

Social Studies and English have been great friends in the field of education since the beginning of time. Fairmont's Basic Social Studies Skills workshop helps students fine tune their writing skills in a social studies framework by specifically assisting them with: note taking, essay writing and the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, and presenting), time management, test preparation, analyzing statistics and political cartoons and much more.

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teacher Alena Hallack.
Knowledge of geography helps lay a foundation for many other areas of learning, including how to write well. In Fairmont's Geography & Writing Workshop students will learn how to read a range of maps, measure scales on maps, understand time zones, and navigate with latitude and longitude. They will also learn about compasses and bearings, the five themes of geography, maps and globe comparisions, how geography affects culture and the diversity of peoples, and where the major cities and countries are located in the world.

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teachers Amy DeFriese, Veronica Martinez, and Wendy Bright.
This workshop is for all students who want to become confident, skilled leaders with the knowledge, attitude and interpersonal skills to understand and respect themselves and others. Students will develop their decision making, problem solving, and coping skills through fun interactive exercises with their peers. We'll also work on communication (speaking, listening and non-verbal behavior), manners and etiquette. With high-energy activities, stimulating group discussions and memorable stories, students make friends and learn skills needed to be an effective leader in their school, community and home. This course meets the required prerequisite for the Leader in Training Program.

This workshop will be taught by Fairmont teacher Ann Kunkle.
Students with a passion for giving back will have an opportunity for chaperoned community service as they travel off campus to provide service in our community Monday-Thursday. Students will provide manpower for causes including the Huntington Marshes, Second Harvest Food Bank and will also lend a hand for a local Beach Clean Up. Throughout the week, students will also work on their own service project to present at the conclusion of the workshop. This is a great way for students to fulfill their community service requirement!

Rather than playing video games all summer, learn to create your own 3D games using Dark Basic! This exciting, new 2 week course is structured as a giant role-play game. Students are written into the story as interns for Ingenious Student Labs. As interns, they are given the task of creating video games for CarbonAde, a company that produces and promotes healthier drink choices. The students’ excitement and passions are brought to life in this dynamic learning experience. The teacher will guide students through an experience of logic, problem solving, design, and programming. Students transform their own ideas into games they can take home to be shared and played with friends and family.
